Our Conversation With That's So Clutch
At the end of June, we were a guest on the That's So Clutch podcast, an automotive podcast that bridges the gap between car industry experts and those who are not. We had an excellent conversation about the impact proper detailing can have on your car's worth.
Not only did we talk about detailing but we also touch on the many other ways you can protect both your car's interior and exterior, based on your level of use and your budget, from simple practices you can do at home all the way up to the highest level of professional care.
We had a wonderful time getting to talk to the crew and participating in the conversation about automotive care. Please go check out the full episode and all the other amazing content they are producing.

The 1974 Corvette Stingray
The same day our podcast episode aired we also popped over to the Austin Auto Show to see this 1974 Corvette Stingray we helped get show ready! We did a detail clean, paint correction, and ceramic coating on this classic car to help her shine under those convention center lights!
This 5.7-liter V8 C3 might not seem very powerful compared to the more recent C8s we see crowding the roads of 2023, but it laid the foundational work for the Corvette style, and engine.

Despite the many challenges facing the 1974 Corvette such as the oil crisis as well as the rise in insurance prices, the 1974 Corvette Stingray made more sales than the year before. These challenges facing the automotive community had hurt the majority of the muscle and pony car designs where the Corvette found a new update in business. The stingray held its upward trend until 1976 when it started to lose momentum.

This car was a fun one to have at the shop, not an everyday project for us, typically we see the newer models coming by. It puts a smile on our faces to see it shining bright under the lights at the Austin Auto Show!

The First 2024 GT-R To Get PPF
The Nissan GT-R is a staple in the automotive world, which is why we were very excited to be getting one of the first 2024s in ATX at our shop. This car was so new that Xpel had not been able to map any patterns for it yet.
It was an incredible experience to get to pull the vail back a bit and meet the crew involved in creating the patterns that so many Xpel dealers use.

We had a great time talking to them and getting to see some of the magic happen. What an honor to have this amazing car and to be the first shop to be installing full PPF on it as well.
We want to extend a big thanks to the Xpel team for coming out on such short notice and working with our team to get the patterns out for all of Xpel. PPF IT!!

Does PPF Really Work?
One of the things we hear the most is "Does PPF really work?"
It can be a hard thing to believe, because to see how well it can protect your car, you have to damage it, and no one wants to willingly do that. It's a crime among enthusiasts, who in their right mind would do that.
Well we did, we have always stood by paint protection film and believed in it, but we did find ourselves wondering, just how much can it protect. What if we really did put it to the test? So we did, we took a tesla bumper, put 10mil PPF over half of it, and left the other half alone. Then we took it out to an auto show and let people go to town on it with a brick and wire brush, Shawn Jones the man behind Sweet Rides of Central Texas and Pistons in the Park even took a swing at it! By the end of the day, we had scratches that dug so deep there would be no way you could get them out, this bumper would have to be fully repainted. After the show, we took it back and started to take off the PPF.
We thought that with all the damage done, the PPF would have helped reduce the overall impacts, but once we fully removed it all... it was perfect. No damage was done on that side, not a single scrape got through it. Even we were a little surprised. We knew it would reduce the damage, but to completely stop it was a pleasant surprise. Check out our full video to see the whole process from start to finish.
